Vice Provost for Faculty

About the position

The vice provost for faculty development provides intellectual leadership, guidance, and oversight of university-wide strategies and programs to support faculty excellence and advancement. A strong collaborator and effective administrator, the vice provost is an advocate for faculty development, mentoring, diversity, and inclusion. Key responsibilities include:

• Ensuring that policies and processes support best practices for faculty advancement and that best practices are shared, including those related to hiring; mentoring; tenure and promotion; and re-appointment and review
• Informing the design of faculty development and other Institute-wide programs offered by the Office of Faculty Programs
• Supporting improvements in climate, culture, and community at the Institute, including serving as a resource for faculty to address conflicts and develop constructive solutions
• Advancing, with the institute community and equity officer, climate, community, and culture-related goals and recommendations in key reports (including the Strategic Action Plan for Belonging, Achievement and Composition; Task Force 2021 and Beyond; Arts, Culture, and DEI), and stewarding the Institute values and freedom of expression statements
• Closely coordinating and collaborating with the leaders of academic units and the chair of the faculty
• Establishing a faculty advisory committee to provide guidance and incorporate the broadest representation of inputs from faculty at the Institute
